Bio:
Yu Seung Kim is a PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, and also a member of CyLab. His research interest is in the analysis of possible threats in wireless network and the design of novel countermeasures. He received BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from Korea University as a member of the Computer and Communication Security Lab. He also has worked as a senior system software engineer in Telecommunication Network Business, Samsung Electronics.

Abstract:
The broadcast nature of wireless communication intrinsically brings about various security problems. For example, wireless communication can be easily eavesdropped, spoofed, and disrupted by an unauthorized party. Many studies have been focused on developing security mechanisms at each layer. In this talk, however, we show that an attacker is able to largely improve attack effectiveness and efficiency by exploiting cross-layer knowledge in wireless systems. Meanwhile, we show that the same approach can be utilized to defend against the cross-layer attack.
